Lalgarh blast ahead of visit

There has been a landmine blast in Lalgarh a day before Home Minister P Chidambaram is scheduled to visit the area.

Police say the blast was triggered by Maoists on an isolated stretch about four kilometers from Lalgarh village.

However, there are no reports of injuries or casualties.

The Home Minister is on a two-day visit to West Bengal. He will reaches the state capital Kolkata early on Saturday evening and is scheduled to visit Lalgarh on Sunday. The police say his visit is on schedule.

The Home Minister is expected to assess the ongoing joint operations against the Maoists.

It is for the first time after the joint forces operations against Maoists were launched in June last year that Chidambaram will visit the Maoist strong base.
