Genelia rocking in all 4 languages

Actress Genelia Dsouza has done films in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada - no big deal, did you say? She's delivered hits in all four languages - not bad! In one single year, she informs us - wow!

Ever since Genelia D'Souza, who celebrated her birthday Aug 5 took her first steps in Bollywood with "Tujhe Meri Kasam" and down south with director Shankar's "Boys", there's been no looking back for her.

"I delivered super hits in all four languages - 'Satya' (Kannada), 'Santosh Subramaniyam' (Tamil), 'Ready' (Telugu) and 'Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Naa' (Hindi). I guess I'm the only heroine who delivered four superhits in four languages in one year," she said.

The actress has another reason to be happy.

"I'm the heroine in all the three languages of 'Bommarillu'. The Telugu film was made in Tamil as 'Santosh Subramaniyam' and in Hindi as 'It's My Life'," she said.

Asked about which language she prefers, the actress replied: "I enjoy doing films in all languages. Script is the first factor I look into. I don't mind doing a five-minute role if it's worth it. Secondly I should have a comfort level with the director/producer I work with. Language is never the criterion for me."

Quiz her about how she keeps fit, Genelia says: "I am basically an athlete. I was a state level runner and I played for the national football team. Hence, I am fit. I don't stay away from any kind of food. I love biryani, even if it's oily."

On her much talked about affair with Riteish Deshmukh, she said: "No, I've always maintained that he is a good friend. The press wrote what they wanted to but that hasn't affected our friendship. Besides, I am single."

Angadi Theru Film Review

Angadi Theru audience can never have a negative mindset as Vasantha Balan gave a stunner called 'Veyyil', a few years back under Shankar's banner. Now with international recognition with various awards that Veyyil fetched him, he doesn't need the banner anymore. With expectation comes responsibility and the responsibility was held perfect by Vasantha Balan who has portrayed the Angadi Theru. Often, when you give a decent movie, you tend to see shades of the same movie in your upcoming movies as well. But Vasantha Balan stands as an exception in the street of Angadies. I am sure there is tremendous homework behind this attempt. It's not an easy task to portray the inner life of the sales guys working in famous all-in-one shops that too located in the busy bee of Chennai.
The movie is about the life of people working in a Angadi Street (Street that has got only shops). It doesn't focus only on the lead pair but also describes how people live a life managing a business in this street. There are many brilliant scenes to describe both shades of people. The platform shopkeepers, the individual sellers, the cruel supervisors, the physically challenged people and also the policemen who safeguards the public from cheaters and thieves.
The movie would have been a zombie if importance is not give to the casting. Vasantha Balan scores high here. We saw his casting brilliance in Veyyil, especially the flashback episode of choosing the child artists. I am not at all surprised to see the same brilliance in Angadi Theru. If I had to pick someone who was mega brilliant, it would go to the director A. Venkatesh. I was shocked to his stunning performance. The character that he played, the ruggedness that he had and of course the look made it to say that the casting of his character can never be replicated by anybody else. I in fact felt, instead of directing horrible commercial movies, he can do such meaningful character roles. The other significant factor about other cast involved in the movie is that they resembled as if the real sales guys were asked to act. Only odd feel about the cast that I felt was the character Kani played by Anjali. Her glamy look doesn't make her an apt character to play a salesgirl role. But still, she did role to perfection. Also, the typical 'Annatchi kadai' slag was maintained fantastically throughout the movie. One can notice the slang on how it differs when rendered at different emotion.
Paandi, the KKK fame needs some special mention for his humor in the movie. In general, we often see the screen presence occupied by the lead pair of a movie. But here, we could see that more than two cast shares the screen presence throughout the movie. Paandi, in this movie is not meant for filling the comedian role alone. He shares some significant screen space in many scenes. Along with Paandi, there are other casts like Shophie Mary, other supervisor, the Great Annatchi and many others who have done a neat job.
Vasantha Balan has also taken a dig at many real life incidents or rather accidents and cleverly connected to his child, the screenplay. None can forget the accident that caused the life of the platform livers when a lorry overrun on the platform resulting in many lives. Also, another accident in the improper level crossing. He has used these real accidents into the screenplay apt and certainly not to create tragedy like how we had seen in several movies in the past. He has also taken a dig at Saravana Stores describing how cruel they are with poor illiterate people from village and how rude they are to these people. He has also concentrated on describing how people come to a different city to earn for their family, which is entirely dependant on the person for bread and butter. There are quite a few scenes where Vasantha Balan has literally made the audience to move with the screenplay and fantastic dialogues by Jayamohan. When a dwarf worries that his kid was born resembling him with crippled legs and hands, his wife was very much happy with the way the kid was born resembling him. Asked why, she replied, none can question her on her chastity as they live in the streets and moreover her husband is a dwarf. This specific scene took the audience off their seat and got accolades.
Who can take an open challenge to go and shoot with your mobile camera in the Ranganathan Street? I bet, you will immediately delete the video from your mobile on seeing the quality of capture. Imagine the shoot, which took place in the same street with no sets. Normally, when you shoot in public, it will attract the crowd, but you are in a street where you can see 4 people per square meter. These are more than enough challenges for the debutant Richard. Be it the busy Ranganathan Street or the clean drought village, the debutant scores significantly high and claim due credits for his phenomenal work behind the camera.
Music and the background score for the movie did not let the momentum of the movie to go down. In this aspect, both Vijay Antony, who has also handled the background score and G V Prakash has done a decent job with neat songs and rhythmic clear BGM.
Vasantha Balan scripts each and every frame brilliantly. The continuity has been maintained very well with Sreekar Prasad doing a crisp work with his scissors. Vasantha Balan gave valid justification and also did not over bore the audience with too much emotion or too much humor. He is just 3 movies old director and he has got the ability to maintain the pace and calculate the pulse of the audience. You get to see a lot of beggars who can bring soft corner as soon as you see them. But Vasantha Balan did not bring the emotion in just showing them but also used them along with the screenplay to bring in emotion. Overall, the product is a very neat and genuine attempt and a welcome movie for the Tamil Cinema Audience.

Katrina to get married by 2012

Call it an ultimatum or whatever but Katrina Kaif is certain she will get married in 2012. And since that’s just two years from now, she is all set to have the time of her life in films.

That also explains her choices, which currently consist of Farah Khan’s Tees Maar Khan, Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar and Tarun Mansukhani’s Dostana 2, which should take care of this year.

It also means she has stopped looking for another home. “I’ll get married and go to my husband’s home,” she says fluttering her eyelashes, “Why put in so much money into a new home when I have a perfectly comfortable one at the moment?”

Whether the 2012 groom will be Salman Khan or someone she still has to meet, or whether it will even be another actor, is something she refuses to comment on.

Karthik calling karthik review

A very simple story, but one that keeps on quizzing you till the end. More important is the realism in the movie. All scenes and things that reveal the twists are perfectly logical. I have never seen such a edge of the seat thriller story narrated without any action or supernatural occurings.

Karthik, a intelligent but conserved guy without self confidence becomes a failure in his professional as well as personal(love) life. He decides to commit suicide, but he gets a phone call, the person in the other side of the phone declares that he is also karthik and he is there to help him. On other Karthik's advice, Karthik succeeds in his professional life and wins over Shonali(his lover) too. All is well till he reveals the truth about another Karthik to Sonali. Sonali advises him not to pick his phone call and he dint pick the call and next day when Karthik picks up the phone, the infuriated karthik challenges him that it is going to be end of his success. Next day, he loses his job, love and becomes pennyless(moneyless). Karthik wants to find the other karthik and get rid of him from his life. Does he succeeds or not becomes the second part of story....

Few scenes are simply stunning. Especially the scene in which, the Psychiatrist attends the call from other Karthik infront of Karthik, gets horrified and runs out of his house.

Farhan, I dont know before that he is an actor. He lived as Karthik. The way he expresses his fear, when he waits for Phone call and methods he adopt to escape from other Karthik are superb scenes.

Deepika is gorgeous. I went to movie for her and Uff teri ada song even after hearing bad reviews from my friends. Shankar Essen Loy are commandable, Hey Ya and Uff teri ada still remains in my mind. They did an awesome job in bgm too(which is very essential for a thriller script)

Nicely executed plot from a concept tht is killed by 2 tamil cinema previously....

Verdict: Go for it... You just cant watch it again or after hearing spoilers.so watch soon and avoid spoilers....

Mundhinam partheney film review

“Mundhinam Partheney ” has no big names either in the acting front or behind the scenes but it is one of the better takes on “Love” in the recent times which is as real as it can possibly get. Magizh Thirumeni debuts with this one & he shows a lot of potential in presenting a tale pleasantly & interestingly without any uncalled-for histrionics or melodrama making it a worthwhile movie watching experience. He should surely make his “Guru” Goutham Vasudev Menon proud & also show him thing or two how love can be portrayed on screen without any undue over the top moments.

Movie does start off rather amateurishly & sluggishly without anything worthwhile happening onscreen but once Sanjay & Ektha meet & get into a relationship the movie takes of nicely with a very interesting climax to boost. The fact that reality bites & not every love has a happy ending is told in a poetic manner. Also the director has not taken undue efforts to justify the actions of the lead pair with is what makes the movie intriguing.

On the downside , the pace may have been taken care of while songs spring up here & there without any validation for their appearance which does gets under one’s nerves after a point of time. One gets a feeling that there are 1 or 2 songs too many , though the songs are pleasant to hear.

Arvind as the protagonist is adept with boy next door features .Among the heroines Ektha is competent while the other two Lizna & Pooja pass muster.

Sai Prasanth & that talkative girl of the gang manages to generate heartfelt laughter without any double-entendres or vulgar jokes which is refreshing indeed.

In Thaman’s music all songs are melodious & good to hear while he is OK with his Background score.

Jayanan Vincent’s Cinematography is proficient while editing may have been sharper.

On the whole , when one entered the cinema hall without any expectation , “Munthinam Partheney ” comes across as a whiff of fresh air. Go for it & enjoy the pleasantness of realism .

Bottomline: Pleasant .

Kareena kapoor-sandra bullock

Recently, the Kapoor girl was awarded title of Worst Actress for Kambakkht Ishq by Golden Kela Awards. The actress sportingly accepted the award and defends her stand saying,

“Sandra Bullock won a Razzie for All About Steve and then an Oscar for The Blind Side. So why can’t I bag a Kela Worst Actress Award for Kambakkht Ishq and then a Best Actress for 3 Idiots and Kurbaan? I take it as a compliment.”

She goes on, “One unsuccessful film doesn’t make you a bad actress. Sometimes you take a risk for a friend, sometimes to extend your boundaries. Superstars are born from failure more than success.”

Now that’s Bebo, one should not be surprised if she celebrates this one too!

Priyanka Chopra - short n sweet

We did a little quick Q&A session with PC, And here’s what we got:

Sexiest B’wood actor – Shah Rukh Khan

Favourite co-star – Umm, tough pick, oh my God, I have a lot of favourite co stars. Well... since Shah Rukh Khan’s my favourite actor, I kind of get dumbfounded when I work with him, I still do, so he wins!

Sexiest heroine (you can name yourself if you like) – I’d say besides myself, if I had to pick someone, I think Deepika and Bipasha. Very sexy bodies, very fit, toned, beautiful, besides myself (laughs).

Best actress – Kajol, for sure. Wackiest person, the most fun,
completely crazy – Me, really, I’m definitely the most fun to be with.

Favourite chill out place – My friends’ houses. I’m not a very party person. I’m a Cancerian na, so I’m very homely.

Love to pig out on – Everything. But junk food’s my favourite cuisine. I’m so grateful it doesn’t show!

Favourite outfit – Saree. I wear a lot of dresses because it’s more convenient, but if I was getting the opportunity I would wear sarees everywhere. I wear them to a lot of formal events.

Priyanka chopra -hosts fear factor

Who is the fittest female actor in our industry? Tough call right? But who is the fittest female actor in Bollywood to host an action adventure show replacing Akshay? Well, the count comes down to just one and that is our very own Priyanka Chopra. With her pizzazz and fit body she sure seems just the one to fit into Akshay's shoes for Khatron Ke Khiladi - Season 3.

As you wonder why Akshay is even being replaced, then it must be revealed that the format of the show has undergone a change. Whereas it was 13 beauties as contestants and one hunk hosting the show in the first two editions, now it's going to be 13 guys and one beauty, ready to rein them and put them through gruellingly tough tasks. What's more the 13 guys are no ordinary persons but some popular National and International cricketers. Sounds fun doesn't it?

It's also revealed that Piggy Chops would be performing some of the stunts herself too. Basking in the excitement, Priyanka tweeted, "O now I can officially finally tell ya'll my secret. I'll be hosting Fear Factor 3 this season! That's 'Khatron Ke Khiladi'!! I'm tooo excited!" Well! She sure has reason enough to be.

KKK Season 3 that was initially going to be shot in South Africa will now be shot in Brazil and will also mark Priyanka's debut on television. With Priyanka Chopra and the renowned names from the cricketing world coming together, the TRPs will surely be touching new highs when this show goes on air.

HDFC-strong demand for housing loan

The days of exceedingly low home loan rates and special schemes are numbered.

But as banks get ready to phase out these schemes, customers are still rushing in to take advantage of the "teaser rates".

For home loan companies this has meant another quarter of strong growth in loan disbursement.

While the year is likely to end on a high for HDFC and home loan borrowers, the new fiscal is likely to bring higher rates and at least slightly slower loan growth.

Property prices especially in large cities in Mumbai and Delhi have started to rise. That together with a rise in rates could be a dampener for home loan demand.

But Karnad believes that rate hikes, if any, will only come towards the latter half of the year.

"I don’t think rates will rise by 50-75 basis points and that too towards the later part of the year,” said Karnad.

While HDFC is the undisputed leader in housing loans, the lender is also slowly increasing its focus in another niche market, that of education loans.

After acquiring controlling stake in a small education lender called Credila, the banking major is now looking to build that portfolio too.

While HDFC may look at small diversification moves, its core focus will remain on maintaining market share in the housing loan market, which they believe will continue to grow at an average of 20 per cent over the next year.

Love in a nameless town

My memories of you are all mundane,
They are of trite days,
And banal nights.

Sometimes I wish
I had to savor,
Memories of seeing the setting sun
In your eyes,
Reciting poetry while sipping wine,
With waves singing a lullaby,
Somewhere on the riviera.

Instead I have,
Moments stolen
From sweaty summer afternoons,
Conversations left unsaid
In a hurry to reach home,
Before glances turned suspicious,
And questions followed.
Of smiles shared,
Away from the prying eyes
Of accusing houses,
Letters and flowers,
Slipped in the pages of borrowed books.
A single kiss in three years,
If brushing lips in tearing haste,
With eyes pinned to the door,
Qualifies as one.

I have memories of a bourgeois romance,
Stifled by the middle-class concerns
Of a small, miserly town,
A town where love was a blasphemy,
And morality a cross
To which emotions were nailed always.
A heartless town with small minds,
And smaller dreams.

I return to it often,
Though a lifetime has gone by,
To hear the hushed whispers of a love,
That still breathes through its tomb
Of dusty lanes and petty houses,
As I try to convince myself yet again,
That for the death of our love,
It was the town to blame,
And nothing else.

Banglore royal challengers make their victory

Jacques Kallis smashed an imperious half-century as Bangalore secured a remarkable eight-wicket victory over Mohali.

Fuelled by a rollicking 75 from opener Manvinder Bisla and a superb 77 from Ravi Bopara - his second consecutive half-century - Mohali amassed a formidable 203 for three after choosing to bat first.

But Kallis smashed an unbeaten 89 and Robin Uthappa smacked 51 as Bangalore overhauled that target with seven deliveries to spare.

Praveen Kumar sent down a tidy first over, conceding just one and beating the outside edge on several occasions, but from there the game spiralled out of control for the home side.

Dale Steyn was disappointingly profligate at the start and Anil Kumble, who brought himself on first over after the end of the powerplay, proved more expensive.

Bisla began his innings with an ungainly boundary past wicketkeeper Mark Boucher down the leg side, and although he struggled initially, he managed to score at a decent rate.

The tempo rose considerably in the sixth over - Kallis' second - Bisla pummelling the South Africa paceman for a six and two boundaries in five deliveries and the runs flowed freely from there on.

Bisla dominated the opening stand which produced 129 in 14.1 overs and went to his half-century in 36 deliveries before eventually holing out to Eoin Morgan at deep mid-wicket.

Bopara, who had played the supporting role nicely, then accelerated smoothly and raced past the half-century mark by hammering Praveen for three consecutive boundaries.

Then Bopara fell and Yuvraj Singh (nine) recorded another failure with the bat, but Mahela Jayawardene ensured a strong finish with a quick 26.

The home side faced a daunting chase, but openers Kallis and Manish Pandey (38) gave them a steady start, putting on 74 in 8.1 overs.
It's all about numbers

Pandey had provided impetus, striking two boundaries and smashing three sixes before his departure, but it was Uthappa's fiery innings which put Bangalore on track.

Uthappa smashed four boundaries and as many sixes - three of which came off a Sreesanth over which yielded 25 - and raised his half-century off only 19 deliveries before falling to Bipul Sharma, one of two specialist spinners in the Mohali side.

Bangalore needed 55 from the last five overs, but Kallis brought that target down to 11 off the last two overs by hammering Bipul for three sixes and a four in one over.

Sehwag's knock

Swashbuckling Delhi Daredevils batsman Virender Sehwag said he was not chasing any record but was just enjoying his batting during the team's facile IPL win over Rajasthan Royals here on Tuesday.

Sehwag blasted a 34-ball 75 to set up the Daredevils' win and at one stage, looked like equalling or bettering Yusuf Pathan's IPL record of a 37-ball century.

The star opener, however, insisted he did not have records in mind.

"I was not playing for any record. I was just enjoying my game and that's how I play. I don't play for records," Sehwag told after the match.

With Sehwag on song, boundary once again looked smaller and when told about it, the star player said, "I would have hit as many sixes even if the boundary was larger."

It was the Daredevil's' second successive win in the tournament and Sehwag attributed the success to Gautam Gambhir's leadership.

"His captaincy is the secret behind our success and that's why we have won both the matches so far," said Sehwag, who led the side in the first two editions of the Twenty20 league.

Sehwag also praised rookie leggie Sarabjeet Ladda's performance.

The mood, meanwhile, was sombre in the Rajasthan Royals camp after the side slumped to their second successive defeat and captain Shane Warne had more bad news to share.

"Three of our key players have picked up injuries. Dmitri Mascarenhas has rolled his ankle, Yusuf (Pathan) has picked up a shoulder injury and Graeme Smith has injured his finger.

Smith and Yusuf are going to hospital for x-ray," Warne said. Unhappy with the team performance, Warne said the next matches would be crucial for the side which had won the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2008.

"I am not at all happy with the performance of the team. We are really grumpy and angry. We didn't follow the simple basics of the game. We started off very well but lost 2-3 quick wickets which was the turning point and after that it was difficult to make a comeback in the game. Yusuf getting out without scoring was really disappointing.

"We have to bounce back now and we are looking forward to the next couple of games which are very crucial for us," Warne explained.

kkr gives a royal defeat to bangalore

Angelo Mathews returned with a four-wicket haul as a disciplined Kolkata Knight Riders notched up their second successive win, beating Royal Challengers Bangalore by seven wickets in the third Indian Premier League here on Sunday.

Cheered on by Shah Rukh Khan at the jam-packed Eden Gardens, Knight Riders first restricted the Royal Challengers at 135 for seven and then rode on half centuries by Manoj Tiwary (50) and Brad Hodge (50) to overhaul the target with four balls to spare.

Having excelled with the bat against defending champions Deccan Chargers in their last match, Sri Lankan all-rounder Mathews this time ripped the Royal Challengers apart with four for 19 to become the destroyer-in-chief.

The medium-pacer was brilliantly supported by left-arm spinner Murali Kartik as Knight Riders prevailed from the beginning.

Chasing 136 to win, Knight Riders had a flying start with Tiwary and Hodge milking the Royal Challengers bowlers as they cruised to 85 for no loss in 10 overs.

Kumble used five bowlers in the first 10 overs but they failed to get a breakthrough with Tiwary and Hodge in fire.

The duo did not let Kumble's opening bowling pair of Praveen Kumar and Jacques Kallis to settle as he brought in himself and Dale Steyn but without any success.

RCB even struggled on the field and failed to bring in an easy run out in the 3.2 overs when Tiwary had some problem in his ankle and struggled to go for a second run.

Steyn had a brilliant throw from the rope but stumper Goswami and Dravid made a mess of it with Kallis and Kumble looking aghast at the other end.

Tiwary, however, wasn't complaining as he continued his assault smashing ace leg-spinner Kumble for 15 from eight balls including three boundaries as he cruised to 50 in 28 balls before being caught and bowled by Roelf van der Merwe.

With Knight Riders 101 for one in 11.4 overs, Ganguly joined Hodge in the middle but the agony for the Royals Challengers continued with butter-fingered Goswami dropping Ganguly when he was yet to open his account.

Hodge, in the mean time, completed his half-century and soon found himself caught by Manish Pandey off the bowling of van der Merwe as Cheteshwar Pujara joined Ganguly in the middle.

Looking to complete the formality with three runs remaining, Ganguly found himself dismissed by Praveen Kumar.

The ace southpaw scored 23 runs facing 22 balls with one boundary and one six in his knock.

Earlier put into bat, Jacques Kallis anchored the RCB innings with a defiant 65 not out off 52 balls that included six boundaries.

Ray Jenning's tactics of banking on rookie Indian youngsters in batting misfired as the trio of Shreevats Goswami (8), Manish Pandey (0) and Virat Kohli (2) could only manage 10 runs.

Charl Langeveldt and Ishant Sharma tested Goswami, who opened the innings with Kallis, with pace and bounce. The stumper couldn't negotiate the short deliveries and soon became a victim of the former caught at third man.

Manish Pandey also departed in no time as RCB slided to 17 for two. In desperation to open his account, Pandey (0) dragged one onto his stumps as Mathews got his first wicket in his third ball.

Left-arm spinner Kartik then scalped two wickets from his two overs as Royal challengers were tottering at 35 for four.

Kartik first scalped Kohli (2) as he charged down the track only to find Mathews near the rope. English recruit Eoin Morgan was the next to go as in his pursuit for a reverse sweep he was castled by Kartik.

Opener Kallis, however, remained unruffled at the other end as he along with another veteran Rahul Dravid tried to make some repair work.

But thinking skipper Ganguly brought in Mathews again and he dismissed Dravid who inside-edged a low full toss to see his team slip to 73 for five.

The duo yielded 38 runs for the fifth wicket as Dravid departed for 21 from 16 balls with three fours.

With Ganguly rotating his bowlers, boundaries dried up and Mathews took two more wickets in Robin Uthappa (20) and Roelof van der Merwe (1) in his last over to emerge as the wrecker-in-chief.

Australia 2010 World cup Winners

Power-packed Australia proved third time lucky as they won the men's field hockey World Cup after a 24 year hiatus with a 2-1 win over defending champions Germany on Saturday.

Luke Doerner scored the winning penalty corner 11 minutes from the end after Edward Ockenden had put the Kookaburras ahead in the sixth minute and Moritz Furste drew level for Germany in the 48th.

Doerner's eighth goal in the tournament made him the joint leading scorer with another penalty corner specialist Taeke Taekema of the Netherlands.

Australia, whose previous World Cup title came way back in 1986, had lost the last two finals against Germany in 2002 and 2006.

The Germans, hoping to become the first team in history to bag a hat-trick of titles to add to the Beijing Olympic gold medal two years ago, were outpaced by the speedy Australians.

Kookaburras' legendary coach Ric Charlesworth watched the final from the stands behind the goal, rather than on the bench, just as he had done in the semi-final against the Netherlands.

Charlesworth, who was part of Australia's Cup winning squad in 1986, became only the second man after Dutchman Hans Jorritsma to win the World Cup both as a player and coach.

Jorritsma was a player when the Netherlands won the title in 1973 and then coached the Dutch to victory in 1990, before achieving a similar result with Pakistan in 1994.

The Netherlands, meanwhile, gave veteran goalkeeper Guus Vogels a retirement present by winning the bronze medal with a 4-3 win over England earlier on Saturday.

In a thrilling play-off for the third and fourth place positions, Rogier Hofman scored the winning goal three minutes before the final whistle after the Dutch fought back from 1-3 at half-time.

Vogels, who turns 35 later this month, was named the Dutch captain instead of Teun de Nooijer for the bronze medal match, his last international game after earning 260 caps for his country.

Vogels was part of the Netherlands' Olympic gold medal-winning teams in 1996 and 2000.

"We wanted to win this one for Guus and I am proud the way we played today," said de Nooijer. "It was incredible the way we came back in the match.

"Guus has been a great ambassador for Dutch hockey and has enjoyed a glorious career. We will celebrate by throwing a dinner for him here."

European champions England, hoping for a podium finish for the first time since winning the silver medal in 1986, were swept aside in the second half by a determined Dutch side.

"It is absolutely devastating," said England captain Barry Middleton. "All the hard work we have done in the tournament has come to nothing because we failed to win a medal.

"We just did not do the little things well in the match. It was our worst game in the tournament."

Economy has turned around

"Perhaps, we can most humbly claim that there is a turnaround ... 7.2 per cent is not my pipe-dream, but it is reality.... The situation of uncertainty is no longer relevant," finance minister Pranab Mukherjee said replying to a debate in Lok Sabha on the Union Budget 2010-11.

He pointed out that khariff (summer) production was estimated to fall short by 15-18 million tonnes, but the industrial growth was into double digits for the last five consecutive months and more than 15 per cent in the consecutive two months.

The Finance Minister said the Budget proposals raising excise duty by two per cent will have some impact on inflation as it is not detachable from the overall economy.

He said the excise duty were reduced from the peak 14 per cent to 8 per cent in tranches last year to give industry a six per cent concessions as part of stimulus measures.

Likewise, five per cent customs duty on crude oil was cut to nil in June 2008 when the global rates peaked to over $127 a barrel as a prelude to the stimulus package to the industry.

The government on Friday claimed that the economy has turned around and there was no longer uncertainty, despite the deficit monsoon and the drought situation in large parts of the country.

Mukherjee said he has merely restored the duty upon recovery in the economy.
"That time, I cut excise duty to give a relief," he said while debunking charges that "aam aadmi" was ignored in the Budget.

"I did not opt for any shortsighted or short-term policy ... tax reforms are urgently required," he said while asking the Opposition whether the need of tax reforms was not felt by them.

On the proposed Goods and Service Tax, Mukherjee said he wanted the rates to be reduced, but base to be broadened with limited exemptions so that taxes on both goods and services remain at the same level.

"We have conveyed to the states to bridge the existing gap so that 28 states can arrive at consensus on excise and service tax," he said emphasising that there is need for revolutionary changes in indirect tax structure.

China VS Google

Hardening its stance, China on Friday said that world's leading search engine Google must obey its rules or "face the consequences" giving no indication whether it was ready to reach a compromise in the dispute over hacking.

It said the US internet company was welcome to stay and expand its business in China but at the same time it will have to face the consequence if it insists on doing things that violates China's laws and regulations.

"It is irresponsible and unfriendly if Google insists in doing something that goes against China's laws and regulations, and it will have to bear the consequence for doing so," said Li Yizhong, Chinese Minister of Industry and Information technology.

"Whether to withdraw from China or continue to stay is up to them," Yizhong told a press conference called to give details of China's talks with the company.

The Chinese top internet regulator's comments came a day after Google asserted that it was firm in its stance not to allow censorship of its web content in China.

“We are currently reviewing our business operations in China as we no longer feel comfortable censoring our search results in that country," Nicole Wong, Vice President of Google had said to an US Congressional committee.

"If Google decides to stay in China, we welcome and it will help boost the development of the country's Internet industry," Yizhong said.

"The company is welcome to expand its business and market share in the country. If it decides to quit, we will follow our procedures," Yizhong said, adding that Google's departure, will have no major influence on China's Internet market, which will continue its fast expansion momentum.

Google entered China in 2007 and now accounts for more than 30 per cent of the country's search engine market, according to the minister.

"I hope Google can abide by China's laws and regulations," official Xinhua news agency quoted him as saying.

He said China's Internet environment is open and administered in line with the country's laws.

“Internet administration is not a special case in China as all countries regulate networks according to their own laws."

The Google official told US Law makers yesterday that it was firm in its decision to "stop censoring our search results for China" and that it was "prepared" to leave the country if that was the option.

Restrictions on Google has become one of the main contentious issues between US and China. Washington has been insisting that China should liberalise the internet environment and stop screening the content of Google, which alleged attempts were made to screen the e-mail content, especially of the dissidents.

Kumble Eyes Royal Title

Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Anil Kumble is hoping a cohesive approach will help his team go one better than last year.

Kumble is hoping his side will win the third edition of the Indian Premier League, which begins in Mumbai on Friday.

Last season the Royal Challengers produced a remarkable turnaround following a shaky start to a tournament that was moved to South Africa due to security concerns and eventually finished runners-up.

Kumble's star-studded team, labelled a Test team in the inaugural edition, lost the final by just six runs to the Deccan Chargers last year but the veteran leg-spinner believes they can claim the title this time around.

"I think we have a very balanced side and in club cricket, the biggest advantage is to play as a unit," Kumble said.

"We realised during the Champions League last year that we actually slipped into our roles quite seamlessly so-much-so that we hardly felt the break from the IPL.

"We have the ability to regroup very quickly and that's the best thing about this team. The players have shown good form in recent matches and hopefully it would continue in the IPL."
The Royal Challengers finished bottom of the eight-team league in the inaugural edition in India and Kumble admitted the tournament's return to the sub-continent would prove a challenge.

"The wickets are going to be flat and the grounds smaller so we have to be prepared to chase higher scores," he said.

"We need to be aware of the condition of the wicket, about our opponents, take it one game at a time and try to win each match.

"We have the quality to compete and if we play to potential, we will certainly go all the way."

The Challengers will be up against stiff opposition from the other seven teams, particularly twice semi-finalist the Delhi Daredevils and defending champions the Deccan Chargers - two of the strongest teams in the fray, while the Mumbai Indians, the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Kings XI Punjab all have a point to prove.
The Daredevils coach Eric Simons has backed new captain Gautam Gambhir to deliver.

"Gambhir is a mature and clear-thinking individual, he has got no ego and is the perfect man to lead," Simons said.

"However, the key is to peak at the right time and we have to find ways to do that.

"We have several match-winners in the side, so we are confident."
Rajasthan Royals captain Shane Warne, who led his unfancied team to the title two years ago, believes his side would be up to the task following a disappointing sixth place finish in the last edition.

"Nobody gave us chance in the first edition, but we still emerged champions," he said.

"This time too, the feeling is similar. After two years of competition the teams are predictable but there is always an element of surprise and it's something which worked very well for us in the first edition.

"The other teams copied our style, which proves that our brand was very successful.

"We have a number of options which could be used as secret weapons and we have a good bunch of youngsters who could land us the title."
Mahendra Singh Dhoni, captain of the Chennai Super Kings who reached the final in the first year and the semi-final last year, believes physical and mental fitness would be key.

"The IPL has a demanding schedule and there will be a lot of pressure on the players," he said.

"It will be a big test mentally and players need to be fresh physically too because it is going to be hot and humid even under lights. But I'm sure the players will cope."

TV channels to ride on IPL fever

Not wanting to be left out during the cricket crazy weeks ahead, TV channels are gearing up to dish out special programmes to keep viewer's interested during IPL 3.

This time around, for the third season of IPL which will be played from March 12 to 25, channels are set to pull together eyeballs in their favour by cashing on the IPL fever and lending a complementary hand to it.

As part of its offering, English movie channel HBO will have a 'Hollywood Premier League' showcasing a range of blockbuster films during the IPL season.

It has incorporated various cricketing elements like 'HPL Scoreboard' and movie trivia in the form of 'HPL Googly'.

"It is the time of IPL and everybody is geared up for it. We want to be with it's spirit as it would be foolish to compete with it. So, we came up with 'Hollywood Premier League' and the movies will be showcased after the matches get over," Shruti Bajpai, Country Manager, HBO Asia told PTI.

Entertainment channels who suffer the most with IPL taking away their share on prime-time slot viewership too are looking to ride on the IPL wave this year.

"'IPL Rockstar' not only promises to raise the bar in the mere conception of live entertainment for television, but also embark the first ever alliance between mainstream television programming and international sporting events," said Programming Head of COLORS, Ashvini Yardi.

The show to be judged by Sukhwinder Singh and Kailash Kher and hosted by rapper Hard Kaur will also see IPL franchisee owners Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta and Shilpa Shetty gracing the jury panel to attract viewers.

"It is going to move from the studio to the cricketing grounds in midst of real action. The audience will witness a unique marriage of our nation's biggest passions, cricket and music with this differentiated programming initiative," Yardi added.

But not everybody is weaving threads around IPL to raise TRP's.

"We are not doing anything around IPL as it does not affects general entertainment channels. It's just 5-7 percent on certain slots and 15 to 20 percent on other slots," said Shailja Kejrival, Executive Vice President (Content) of Imagine.

Kejrival feels that despite a large chunk of audience tilting in favour of IPL there is a good amount of loyal viewers.

"There is a huge audience that still remains with us. We will try to make our existing content more interesting," she added.

Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya Review

Woody Allen’s cult classic ‘Annie hall’ has a fantastic closing line which pretty much sums up what relationships are all about,

“After that it got pretty late, and we both had to go, but it was great seeing Annie again. I... I realized what a terrific person she was, and... And how much fun it was just knowing her; and I... I, I thought of that old joke, y'know, the, this... this guy goes to a psychiatrist and says, "Doc, uh, my brother's crazy; he thinks he's a chicken." And, uh, the doctor says, "Well, why don't you turn him in?" The guy says, "I would, but I need the eggs." Well, I guess that's pretty much now how I feel about relationships; y'know, they're totally irrational, and crazy, and absurd, and... But, uh, I guess we keep going' through it because, uh, most of us... need the eggs”

Gautham Vasudeva Menons latest offering Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya pretty much epitomizes the same theory. True we have seen it all before. A Hindu Tamil boy an assistant director falls for a very smart beautiful Mallu Christian girl, and yeah its love at first sight for him. He is not quite sure about what the girl feels, and surprisingly the girl herself isn’t very sure. Though later it is indeed revealed that its love at first sight for her too. But she doesn’t want to hurt her family who is hell bent against the idea of a marriage to a wannabe director and even worse a Hindu. He woos her like any other crazy love bitten boy and she does eventually fall for him, not before she almost gets married to another person. But still all the nice things that are planned and dreamt doesn’t go exactly as expected and we head up to a pre climatical twist which is kind of intelligent.

Gautham Menons strong point has always been romance. Be it the fully driven plot of “Minnale” or the subplots in “Kakha Kakha”, Vettaiyadu Vilayaadu, and Varanam Aayiram. Each one of them was worked to perfection and he seemed to be a natural in romanticizing his lead pairs. VTV is no exception. But here he goes into a zone of unpredictability in relationships. As much as it’s narrated from the hero’s perspective, the main crux lies in his characterization of Jessie. She is completely complex, you never know what exactly is going in her mind, or we aren’t even very clear if she really know what she really wants. She suffers between the compulsions of not disappointing her folks and her extreme liking towards the hero. It’s a classic case of a battle between your heart and your mind, and you never know when or how the precedence is taken. I simply loved the unpredictability of her characterization without which the movie would have been just another candy floss romantic entertainer.
The dialogues are perfect as you would expect from a Gautham Menons movie. They do touch the borderline of cheesiness at times, but stay mostly close to real conversations. He seems to have a pulse for depicting modern day relationships touching the hormonal drive without making it looking vulgar. It’s no more just starring and glaring but involves a fair share of physicality driven by pure emotions. Take for the sequence where the lead pair shares a train journey together when they have just decided to be just friends. They are so attracted to each other that they gradually end up coochi cooing at the comfort of each other. The film is filled with such beautiful moments. Added I loved the way he downplayed all the melodrama of the issue of a Hindu boy and a Christian girl. There are no preachy sequences where love is beyond all religion or no over the top sequences of the parent threatening to pull off an emotional blackmail. It’s all done in a simple subtle way. Yeah you do have a very indulgent boxing fight sequence ( was it to a compromise to play down to the masses ) and the usual Gautham Menons trademarks - English dialogues( he takes a dig at himself ) , he dubbing for one of the characters(essentially an one with a negative shade) btw is the mechanical engineering part a repeat too ?? . All said and done I would rate this one as his finest work, where he shows a great deal of consistency throughout the movie. People accuse of him being wannabe Maniratnam, he does follow his footsteps and if I might add in the right direction too but does need a fair bit of catching to do.

The movie was in the news right from day one for its casting of Simbhu with Gautam Menon. Simbhu is a name who immediately people relates to nonsensical punch dialogues and trashy commercial pot boilers till now was working Gautham Menon for the first time. What an outing he has. It’s a complete makeover for him. He gets a new look, a subtle one that with a set of fantastic costumes to go with. He is required to downplay it and he does competently well. He is thoroughly likeable in the scenes where he goes around wooing his lady love. He does show a great deal of maturity in holding up a scene like the one in central park where he breaks down confessing his love. If he could work a bit harder in dialogue delivery and continues to find good directors, then for sure he is going places. Trisha on the other hand doesn’t make much use of a fantastic opportunity. Sure she has never looked so beautiful before, but gives an impression that she could have given much more to her character. Anyways she is decent enough and not kind of a letdown. Then we have a fantastic performance by Ganesh (I head he is one of the producers) the cinematographer who comes as a friend of Simbhu. He is a delight.

We indeed have another pair in the movie without whom the movie couldn’t have worked as it has.ARR is pure genius. There is not a frame without his BGM and the fantastic songs are used as more like a narrative. Doesn’t just the start of Aaromale prelude leave us with Goosebumps? It’s been his best work in Tamil after a long time and it gives a huge boost to the movie. Then we have the DOP Manoj Paramahams (not sure of his previous works) who literally creates poetry with his cinematography. Be it the pleasant visuals for the songs or the close up shots of the lead actors he is in top notch form. His visuals add a pleasantness which blends very well with the romantic backdrop of the movie.

To sum it up it’s been a while since we have had a full fledged romantic movie which has everything going for it. This one has, so do check this one out!!

Royal challengers banglore .Matches 2010

IPL-1
The team won 4 matches in this season, losing 10 matches and managed to secure only the last but one position in the points table. Only one of their batsman, Rahul Dravid managed to score more than 300 runs in the tournament and they had to even bench their costliest foreign player, Jacques Kallis for few of the matches due to his poor form. The string of failures led to the sacking of the CEO, Charu Sharma who was replaced with Brijesh Patel. They were the only team in the IPL to try out 11 opening combinations in 14 games. Eventually the chief cricketing officer, Martin Crowe resigned and replaced by Coach Ray Jennings.

IPL-2
With the new South Africa Coach Ray Jennings , The team started with a win against defending champions Rajasthan Royals but quickly went on to lose a few games afterwards under the captaincy of Kevin Pietersen. However, he had to leave for national duty and captaincy was taken over by former Indian Test captain Anil Kumble. The team fortunes reversed and they beat Deccan Chargers to secure a 3rd place in the round robin stage on IPL2. The side lost four of their first five matches in IPL 2009, but made a startling comeback to make it to the semi-finals (This is one of the best comebacks of IPL-2). In the semi- final they surprisingly beat the Chennai Super Kings who were the most consistent team in the league and crushed their hopes of winning the title.RCB entered the finals and lost to Deccan chargers by just a small margin of 6 runs .

IPL-3
With the addition of Morgan ,Smith to the squad , and also taylor , kallis ,Petersen , Uthappa , Kohli , Styn , Merwe with a good form ..The bowler’s likes of Mithun & Vinay had good ranji season , RCB will fancy their chances for the title .

Apart from these 2 Legends of Indian cricket Anil and Rahul makes team look more strong ...Go RCB go .....

Forever

It’s a blessing, now I feel, that you are not here.
You are now fabled, in fantasy, in dreams.
No way near me, nor reality.

I look at you, remember you as I want to be,
Or rather like to be.
Insignificant, you were that or not.
Or you were ever like that or not.

In the world I live,
There is something at least, to think about,
The way I like, feel relieved of pain,
On listening to words, that were never uttered.
Something to look at, which is not there.

Lunacy, it is, I always thought.
But it works, lifts me and heal.
U definitely exist I know.
Good that you left and
were spared the defacing by reality.
To exist now as I wish to be.
Away from me, but for me, forever

My mind

Changed wind blows,
Spontaneous rhythms.
He/she pendulums,
BEnding to and fro within.
REturning empty,
Empty returns...

I paint the stars,
Painting my skies.
Brushing pallet,
Brooming canvases.
And something gets colored,
Coloring my mind...

I hit a stone,
Stirring ripples.
The water blurs,
Blurring my eyes.
And something gets carried,
CArried away in tides.
Something,My mind...

I climb steps,
Walking miles...
On my stairway to heaven,
LEaving all.
And something is left behind,
Something,My mind.

Changed wind blows,
Spontaneous rhythms.
He/she pendulums,
BEnding to and fro within.
REturning empty,
